We have been in the gunite/shotcrete business since 1978. We are a local San Diego business and proudly service the Greater San Diego area as well as areas further out if we have availability.

Our History
Originally, the majority of our work involved using gunite. This changed in November of 1998 we switched 100% of our operations over to shotcrete.
Product quality was the primary driving factor behind this change. We were simply unable to consistently achieve our standard of 2,000 psi with gunite. We tested different types of sand by shooting test panels that were sent to labs to determine the compressive strength that was reached. Few of these test produced our required 2,000 psi for swimming pool construction. Even if these requirements were met, 50% of San Diego soil is of the expansive clay type, which presents an additional set of pitfalls and challenges when using gunite.
In contrast, all of our testing conducted using shotcrete achieved between 3,000 to 4,000 psi, a remarkable improvement.
The Shotcrete Transition
The transition from gunite to shotcrete was a huge undertaking for our company. From a complete equipment overhaul to the re-training of our crews, we invested a lot of time and energy into making sure that post-transition we could deliver a superior product while maintaining our excellent standard of service. All of us at North County Gunite & Shotcrete, from our owners, to management and staff, are pleased with the results of the transition, and we have absolutely no regrets. As to date there have been no delaminations or similar problems. The end result has been a consistently superior product.
